31 Days of Horror
When three friends shared their mutual love of horror during the never ending lockdowns of 2020, Pod of the Damned was born - little did they know the journey they would embark upon, would change them forevermore. As the never ending lockdowns continued to ravage their hometown into the following year, this intrepid trio never faulted. Against all odds they waded through the guts, the gore, the celluloid screams and spine tapping scares - and never stopped pushing through the diverse landscape that is the horror genre.
This is their story.
Who are we?
Emma Beddows is our resident Doctor of pop-culture and a lover of all things spooky. Her relationship with horror was rocky to start, and she still remembers sleepless nights spent in fear that Pennywise the clown or H R Giger’s Alien was waiting just around the corner of her bedroom door. Over the years her fear turned into fascination and she eventually made peace with her nemesis Pennywise, reprising his image for a Halloween costume competition (which she obviously won). She now sleeps with the lights off.
Shawry’s horror journey started way too young. At the tender age of 7 he was shown Jaws, and The Blob remake which, rather than deter him, lit a fire, like a burning Wicker Man, that made horror his passion. Whether it’s reading, writing, or watching, horror consumes Shawry’s days to the extent that Halloween is a bigger deal in his house than Christmas. Shawry does enjoy the schlock in horror more than anything, which you’ll learn as the episodes come out. Slumber Party Massacre 2 rules!
Dean Arcuri (our resident busy homosexual) is often shocked when people think his obsession with horror is just a jump to the left, when it is really a step in the right - direction! From the jump scares and intense music to cinematography and camp characters it is right up his alley, where that stranger is lurking in the shadows. While he admits his obsession with the genre got mixed with his homo side through the years (literally every vampire film is homoerotic – prove him wrong), he can’t get enough of horror from the camp to the vamp and more. Dean puts the gay in gateway to hell!
And we need to give a massive shoutout to Elroy, for creatively editing our spunky faces onto the iconic movie posters and scenes on this webpage and in our social media.
